As sworn firefighters our top priority is to protect people, this includes patient safety. Proposition 23 will hold dialysis clinics accountable, by requiring them to have a doctor onsite when patients are treated. Many of us have responded to clinics, nursing homes or other healthcare facilities where poor practices and the lack of trained medical professionals onsite, made a bad situation worse.
Dialysis is a dangerous but life-saving treatment in which a patient’s blood is taken out, cleaned, and put back into their body. For the sake of patient safety, a doctor should always be onsite during dialysis treatment, that’s why we support Yes on 23.
